Oily skin

Oily skin has a reputation for "not needing cream" – and it's precisely this belief that causes the most harm.

Or another situation: for years you had dry or normal skin, and suddenly breakouts are returning around your chin and jawline, just like in high school. Both have a common denominator – your skin isn't lacking oil, it's lacking the right lipids, and your body compensates for this in the fastest way it knows how: by producing more oil.

What science says about this

  • Acne affects over 20% of people generally, and nearly 30% of those aged 16–24.
  • In perimenopausal women (typically between 35 and 45), fluctuating estrogen relatively strengthens the influence of androgens, which increases sebum production and triggers hormonal acne even after years of clear skin.
  • Aggressive degreasing (gels, alcohol toners, frequent cleansing) further intensifies overproduction of sebum – the skin "tells itself" it needs more.
  • The mechanism is simple: if you remove lipids from the skin's surface too aggressively, the skin barrier is disrupted and transepidermal water loss increases. The sebaceous glands react by increasing sebum production to compensate for the loss – so the result of over-cleansing is paradoxically oilier, not more matte, skin.

Solution

The instinctive reaction to oily skin is to cleanse, cleanse, and cleanse again – but more cleansers don't mean a better result; rather the opposite. Every thorough degreasing strips the skin of even the lipids that should be there, and the skin interprets this as a signal that it needs to produce even more oil. A vicious cycle ensues: cleansing → dryness → sebum overproduction → more cleansing, which won't stop on its own.

Bohemian Day goes in the exact opposite direction – it doesn't try to degrease the skin, but to replenish the lipids that the skin otherwise replaces with its own oil. In a thin layer, it provides what is needed, without a greasy feeling and without clogged pores, so the skin stops compensating and sebum production naturally balances out over time – without the need to cleanse more and more aggressively.

Try Bohemian Day – a light layer, no extra greasiness, and less need to "fight" your own skin.
