Ichthyosis
That "dry skin" that never goes away
Fine, dry flakes, especially on the shins and arms, that you can't "moisturize" no matter what you try.
Most people consider this just "dry skin" for years because almost no one talks about ichthyosis, yet it is the most common hereditary skin disease of all.
What science says about it
- Ichthyosis vulgaris affects 1 in 250 to 1 in 300 people and accounts for over 95% of all ichthyosis cases.
- It is caused by a mutation in the filaggrin gene – a protein that normally holds together the "bricks and mortar" of the skin barrier.
- It is associated with the same genetic cause as atopic eczema – which is why half of people with ichthyosis also have eczema, and conversely, approximately 8% of people with eczema show signs of ichthyosis.
- Symptoms usually appear within 5 years of age, but with diminishing lipids (due to age, weather, or hormones), they can become more pronounced again in adulthood.
Why ordinary cosmetics are often not enough
Classic cosmetics usually only respond with "a very greasy cream" with an immediate but short-lived effect.
The water in it quickly evaporates, and the flakes return within a few hours. It's care focused on an immediate feeling, not on long-term barrier repair, which is genetically missing here, not temporarily.
Our solution
Bohemian Balm is a new generation of so-called "skin food," but for us, that's truly the case, not just a marketing slogan.
Bio-identical lipids from organic beef tallow are structurally so close to what the skin produces itself that the skin recognizes and accepts them as its own, not as a foreign substance it has yet to process.
And because Balm contains no water or preservatives, you can apply it anytime, anywhere, morning, evening, during the day, to your whole body or just to the worst areas.
Here, a one-time rescue doesn't work, but patience and regularity do; the skin needs constant lipid replenishment, not just when it's at its worst.
What customers say
It is precisely with ichthyosis that we have some of the strongest feedback. We regularly hear from people who applied Balm to their whole body the evening before bed and woke up the next morning for the first time in a long time without scratching during the night. Skin that had been tight and flaky for years is visibly nourished and soft to the touch in the morning.
Try Bohemian Balm, the new skin food that your skin recognizes as its own, whenever you need it.
