WHY DOES IT MATTER WHERE BEEF TALLOW COMES FROM?
Beef tallow is one of the key ingredients in the entire Barrier Boost line. However, not all beef tallow is the same. The origin of the raw material, specifically the way cows are raised, directly affects the composition of the tallow and, consequently, what you apply to your skin.
What does a cow's stomach have to do with your skin?
Cows are ruminants adapted to digest grass and herbs. They have four stomach compartments that allow them to process plant matter in a way that other animals cannot. This unique digestive process directly influences the composition of the fat a cow stores in its body.
A cow that grazes in meadows all its life consumes a varied range of grasses and herbs. The tallow from such a cow therefore has a different composition than tallow from a cow raised in factory farming and fed mainly corn and soy.

How does pasture-raised tallow differ from industrial-farmed tallow?
Pasture-raised beef tallow contains a significantly higher amount of conjugated linoleic acid, known as CLA. This is a naturally occurring substance that is associated with supporting a healthy skin barrier and is considered one of the valuable components of quality tallow.
It is interesting for the skin because:
• it helps to soothe the skin
• supports the regeneration of the skin barrier
• contributes to maintaining skin hydration
Grass-fed beef tallow contains significantly higher amounts of CLA than tallow from factory farms. That's why the origin of the raw material is so important when caring for sensitive or atopic skin.
Grass-fed tallow differs from tallow from intensive farming in several key aspects:
• contains more CLA
• has a more favorable ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids
• is naturally golden due to the beta-carotene content from grass
• contains vitamins A, D, E, and K in natural form
In tallow from factory-farmed cattle, the CLA content is significantly lower, and the ratio of omega fatty acids is often shifted in favor of omega-6. These differences are not merely theoretical. For the care of dry, sensitive, or atopic skin, the quality and composition of the origin can be of crucial importance.

Why do we exclusively use Czech pasture-raised tallow?
Beef tallow is a bioidentical ingredient, whose composition is naturally close to the lipids of human skin. Therefore, the skin generally accepts it well and can utilize its nourishing properties.
However, this advantage only becomes apparent if the raw material used is truly high quality. That's why, at Bohemian Cosmetics, we uncompromisingly choose beef tallow from verified Czech farms, where cows graze freely on pastures.
It's not just a marketing message. It's a conscious decision that reflects the quality of every product we create.
