Winter has a special magic. It's quiet, sometimes even healing... but it can really take a toll on our skin. Wind, frost, dry air from the heating, temperature shocks... and let's face it, neither a hot water bottle nor eggnog do much for your skin.

Especially if you have sensitive skin, dry skin or are struggling with a compromised skin barrier.

So I have prepared a gentle winter guide for you.

The kind I would send to my best friend if she asked why her nose was like a scaly cactus and her forehead tensed more than her pilates muscles.

1. Shorter showers = happier skin

I know that a long hot shower is a small escape from reality. But for the skin, it's more like torture, costing it all its lipids. If you have extremely dry skin, atopic skin or sensitive skin, hot water will only make the situation worse.

Try to treat yourself to:

  • a shorter, lukewarm shower,
  • gentle drying instead of wild scrubbing,
  • and develop a new habit right after your shower: replenish your lipids.

5. Drink. Double in winter.
